The
couple living in Mugabe Village , Catandica Township, Báruè District in Manica
Province had brutally beaten a 16 year old daughter on last Saturday (9) after
she refused to marry her uncle a 45 year old married man and father of five children.
According
to the victim she was hardly beaten by a cooking stick and the two stepped on
her chest. “ I am suffering chest pains and all my body is with great pain” she
said.
The
girl’s father confirmed that he did that because he has no money to pay back
his uncle who had already spent a lot of money buying clothes and cosmetics for
the young girl. Besides that, the
marriage is a spiritual order of the medium spirit called “mudzimo.” He added.
In
turn, the mother of the victim said that she had no powers and with no decision
because the medium spirit had promised to kill that girl in 3 days time if she keeps
on refusing the marriage.
The
Community Leader of Mugabe Village -
Francisco Jairosse criticized this behavior and advised the couple to pay back
their uncle all what has been spent on the girl and also to let the girl going to school.
Note
that, the girl had passed Grade 7 and she is willing to go to secondary school
for Grade 8. The total money which was used for the girl by the uncle is fourteen
thousand meticais which is approximately
300 American dollars.
